Conservative group ties climate action support to Unabomber, Charles MansonThe Heartland Institute, is a conservative think-tank that dispute climate science. Surely this latest attempt to blacken the character and reputation of scientists is beyond the pale. It appears they are getting desperate! No doubt because the evidence for AGW/CC is mounting daily. Why don't they realise that it doesn't matter how much they deny reality, it is going to affect them and their families - most pertinently their grandchildren. Although some would say that the effects of climate change have already caused disasters here in Australia and also in Asia, Europe and America. It is happening here and now.

Why do we label people with such pejoratives and is it really warranted or conducive to interaction, understanding and resolution? It's a long-standing and difficult area I know, but we're all human, and we're not perfect. I get extraordinarily frustrated by denialist viewpoints, which get repeated ad nauseam even when they're patent nonsense that has been discredited a hundred times. I'm not a paid professional or a psychiatrist, what do you think I'm going to do? Sure there have been one or two genuine enquiring minds that were actually looking for answers, and I try to be very patient and humble in those rare cases. (Deleted inflammatory pejoratives.)

The language used is still interesting though. I agree that denialist was chosen to be pejorative, but it is accurate, and sceptic doesn't fit most of the people.
I like to use the term accepter, as in a person accepts climate science, not that they believe it.
Anybody tries that hideous old chestnut of "oh you changed it's name from global warming to climate change", I jump up and down and go red in the face.

Accepter is an excellent term wilful, I'm going to start using that. It is not only accurate, but it positively prompts people to ask more about it (What do you accept? The evidence and logic, dear sir!)

Anybody tries that hideous old chestnut of "oh you changed it's name from global warming to climate change", I jump up and down and go red in the face. Especially as the CBD documentary "The Denial Machine" shows how it was the Bush administration that moved from the alarming term Global Warming to the less threatening term, Climate Change. Frank Luntz acted as their pollster and writer, and drew up the memo. These 5 minutes detail it all.
