Recent research by the CSIRO indicates an increase in ocean salinity has shown a strong intensification of the global water cycle over the period 1959-2000. In fact it is double the previously predicted rate.

This seems to be about the same study as in the Wetter when wet; drier when dry thread. Perhaps should be combined?

More extreme the further south. No surprise as the temperature gradient between the ITCZ, essentially the equator, and Antarctica continues to increase. In the north, the Arctic is also warming so the temperature gradient doesn't change as much.
This is another manifestation of warming, along with precipitation changes.
